The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
