Her Royal Highness's Annual Festive Carol Concert Honours Charity Helpers
Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.
The large audience will listen to a mix of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
A Theme of Love and Generosity
The central message of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a message before the festive gathering.
A Steady Comeback
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, last month delivering her first public speech for two years, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Music and Opportunity
Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.
Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the charity, with awards contributing to instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at tonight's service.
"Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.
A Family Affair
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.
That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for food banks.
Festive Decor and Performances
The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.
The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
